Texas Construction Salary and Hiring Guide for General Contractors

Construction compensation in Texas cannot be reduced to one statewide number. A Senior Superintendent delivering large ground-up commercial work in Dallas may sit in a very different market from a mid-level Superintendent working smaller local renovations. The same applies to Project Managers, Estimators and preconstruction leaders.

What drives Superintendent compensation in Texas

Project size, sector, travel, schedule difficulty and field leadership scope all matter. Ground-up, healthcare, industrial, mission critical, manufacturing and complex commercial work can command different candidate pools. Senior Superintendents and General Superintendents also bring broader leadership responsibility than a project-level Superintendent.

Vehicle allowance or company vehicle, bonus, per diem for travel and project-completion incentives can materially affect how an offer is viewed.

What drives Construction Project Manager compensation

For PMs, compensation often moves with project value, commercial ownership, client exposure and leadership responsibility. A PM who manages cost reporting, procurement, buyout, change orders and owner relationships on a large project should not be benchmarked against a coordinator-level role carrying the same title at another contractor.

What drives Estimator and Preconstruction compensation

The value of a strong Estimator can be tied to local subcontractor knowledge, sector expertise, historical bid performance and whether the person is purely estimating or also leading client-facing preconstruction.

Senior Estimators, Chief Estimators and Preconstruction Managers should be benchmarked separately.

Salary is only one part of the offer

Texas construction candidates commonly compare bonus potential, vehicle or allowance, healthcare, retirement benefits, PTO, commute, travel, project backlog and progression. Employers can lose strong candidates even with a competitive base if the overall package or opportunity is unclear.
